Apart from the fact I can’t stand Bob Crowe and find myself instantly disagreeing with anything the man says – not that he finds it easy to form a sentance – but I really can’t see how the RMT think they are going to get any public support for their latest strike action. How do people, many of whom earning a salary above the national average, think the normal members of the public who are facing financial hardship through paycuts, pay freezes and redundancies will support militant and unhelpful staff. How much longer are we prepared to listen to the RMT hiding behind the excuse that cuts will impact on safety when in reality the jobs they are trying to protect are nothing but non-jobs? All the RMT are about is resisting technology, change and modernisation – all of which will benefit the end users of the system.

Hurts: Happiness Album cover

The eagerly anticipated debut album by Hurts, titled ‘Happiness’ is here and what a bundle of happiness it is. Moody-pop, or synth-pop (think Pet Shop Boys with a modern twist) as it likes to be known, can at times sound quite harrowing but in return makes every song sound like it was written for you. Highlights for me from the 11-track album are ‘Wonderful Life’, ‘Blood Tears and Gold’, and ‘Better Than Love’ but one thing is for sure, a listen to this will leave you in a very chilled place.

If there is one thing you should do today it is to set aside 10 minutes of your time to view one of the most eloquently and articulately delivered speeches I’ve witnessed. The subject of the debate, ‘Is the Catholic Church a force for good in the world?’, whilst a topical issue, is not the main one here. It is merely an opportunity to marvel at the wonderfulness that is Stephen Fry. I do not need say any more on the matter, I shall let Stephen say the rest himself…

So this afternoon started with a bit of Murder She Wrote followed by Diagnosis Murder before moving on to a bit of Midsommer Murders and finished off with a serving of Come Dine With Me. What better way to spend the day?

Rob the rich to pay for the poor? Many wouldn’t agree I’m sure but what if the rich had just been given a shed load of cash by the poor so that they can stay…well, rich? The latest idea, backed by politicians and charities alike, is to impose a tiny tax on bankers (remember the ones we all bailed out) which would raise billions of pounds a year to help such issues as climate change, poverty, international aid and go some way to solving some of the problems we have here in the UK, for example the struggling NHS and schools.

Who remembers Misteeq? No, me neither (Alesha who?) but Sabrina Washington is back from the jungle with her debut single, OMG (Oh My Gosh). Putting aside the ‘Rhythm is a Dance’ sample at the start and the fact it sounds like Sabrina is saying ‘Gash’ in the chorus it is all in all a very catchy little number. Good luck Sabrina for the release in March.

So engrossed was I in starting my new blog I forgot to eat. By the time I realised time was pressing on and my stomach was waiting for no man. Hurrah for Spaghetti on Toast. Isn’t it just the simplest, quickest and tastiest bit of comfort food ever created?
